eat in season... fresher, tastier, healthier
The coming season sees the bounty of autumnal vegetables
and fruits. September sees the harvest of the root vegetables,
beetroot, potatoes, swedes, carrots, turnips and onions.
All vegetables harvested at the end of summer are historically
stored through the winter months.
The change into the cooler autumn months also heralds the
beginning of the wild mushroom season, most particular in
Scotland, the chanterelle, which we see from late July
through to late September. Also in abundance,
summer truffles, black trompettes and saffron milk caps.
Fruits are still plentiful, especially the beginning of apples,
pears and figs. The darker berries also hit their peak.
September also sees the beginning of many
game seasons, including partridges,
ducks such as mallard, venison, and the
continuing season of the famed Grouse.
We can guarantee that one if not all will
feature in our menu through
the coming season.
